A Writer's Life

I had to give up my computer for three days, but that didn't stop me from writing in long hand.  I don't need a computer to write.  All I need is a pen and paper.  I would rather write like that, but then I have to put it into my computer and that takes time.  So I do both.  So don't be so connected with your computer, cause it can crash at any moment and don't forget to Back Up your work.  The lady at the computer store aske if I had things backed up.  I said no.  Then I said, that I have it on a disk and she said well that is a form or back up. Back Up your work.  Find someone you trust to work on your computer BEFORE it crashes or gets infected.  That will save you a lot of frustration.  I am going to work on my book  Nothing is going to stop me from finishing the book.  The rough draft is finished and I am doing the rewite. Have you heard of Malware?  I didn't till it infected my computer and froze up my computer. I took it to someone and they had to take it off.  As I understand it, it is software.  You go to a site and they can somehow install it in your computer.  They told me not to click on anything if it happens again, and to turn off the computer and that should stop them from installing it onto your computer.  Not sure I understand it and I have never heard of it, but I was without my computer for three days. The anti virus software does not detect the malware. Just so you know

I write romance novel.  I believe in love and happily ever after. It is good to do something romantic and rekindle the romance in your relationship.  Today I have been with my boyfriend for five years.  I did what any woamn would do if they want flowers and a card.  Leave him a voice mail to tell him you are expecting a card on that day.  The fact that he went to the store, bought a card and flowers was very romantic for  me and I think that would work in a story.  I didn't want to be disappointed so I told him what I expected from him. I got a dozen pink roses and a card.  Pizza and a movie what is more romantic than that.  So the day was perfect and I can use this in one of my stories.  So there is nothing wrong with telling your hero what the herione wants.  Let the herione take the lead.  It can still be romantic and then it can lead to the bedroom. The herione doesn't have to be shy or intimated, let her take the lead and give her some spunk. I love romance.  I

I just spent 6 hours sitting in front of the computer, REWRITING.  I didn't think of it as work.  Came up with better ideas and it is the only way the book will get done. Do you listen to music while you write?  Do you write in silence?  Do you watch TV as you write? I have to admit that I watch tv while I write.  I do it mostly for company, I think.  I think it is a good idea to have some music depending on what mood you want to set while you are writing. I have bought the DVD Burlesque and have watched it 5 times.  I like the music in that movie.  I am watching it right now as I write this.  I like the music.  I should just buy the Cd. I don't own an ipod and I do not down load music.  I go to a store and buy the cd.  I go to the future kicking and screaming and yes I do still play my casettes.  So I think it is important to have music in your life,  Puts you in a better mood. I wrote the goals on my calendar.  I am in major rewrite mode, and then they increased my hours at work.  Not that I don't want the hours, it is the only way to pay the bills at the moment.  I know I will be more tired and will have to work and write even though I will be tired. Maybe this is a test.  To see how bad I want it??  I will still get up early and write and blog, but who said writing will ever be easy.  So I will write before I go to work and write when I get home. I am giving myself five months to do the rewrite....20 weeks........That is a chapter a week. I think I can do this.  I found a calendar, and will use it to mark my progress.  I am already working on the third scene in the first chapter. So now I have a plan and know where I am going.  I have found someone to format my book and get it on amazon.com and the kindle store.  so I am working toward my goal. Do you have a writing buddy?  Someone that you can talk to about your writing?  Someone to bounce ideas off of?? I think that is important.  I have one and I love talking to her and I just feel better, cause we both write and support each other. If you can find a writing buddy it will do wonders for your writing and you don't have to write in the same genre. I am not spending enough time on my writing.  I don't seem to get anywhere.  How am I going to get the book finished if I don't spend the time.  I work, sleep and write and still seem to be getting no where. I write 2-3 hours   a day and that still isn't enough. My arm hurts, my neck and shoulders hurt. I have started my rewrite.  I am going through each scene, and coming up with new idea, to make the scene better.  I am giving myself the summer to do the rewrite, before I do the editting and grammer.   I am very excited about the rewrtie, cause I am getting closer to the finish line.  The rough draft is done and by the end of summer I will be looking for a cover of the book and by the end of the year it will be on line and I will be working on the next book. Woke up with a migraine.  I didn't write today.  Still have a headache and not so perky. No writing today.

I have started the rewrite.  This is more scary than writing the rough draft.  Cause I have it written down and there is no going back.  I am moving forward, and right or wrong, this is my story.  So I am debating over every word, every sentence.  Should I rewrite the scene?  Go in a different direction??  I think I am already stressed. The one thing that I do know is that I am sticking to my plot and not going to make any major changes.  I like the story and I just need to rework the scenes and then I will go to the editting part for grammer and spelling.  My Goal:  To have the rewrite done by then end of summer and by the end of the year I will have it up on line and then I will start the next book.. When your book is finished, Now What??? Are you going to look for an agent?? Send it directly to the Publisher?? Upload it onto Smashwords or amazon.com?? You have a lot of choices today.  More than you had a couple of years ago. The choice is yours.  No choice is right or wrong.  It is up to you. I personally am going to put it on Amazon.com.  I have a series and I don't think that it is write for New York, plus they have rejected in the past and want to put my book out there. I have 2 chapters left to write and the rough draft will be finished!!!!  I am very excited about this.  It will be in the computer and the rewrite will begin.  I have already started on the rewrite.  I will give myself the summer to rewrite it and get it ready to publish. It in now or never for me. I will have it up on line by the end of the year.   This is something I have to do for myself, and no one else.  Deep inside this is what I want to do.  Write.  I want to see my book published.  So I am very excited that I am this far. Should you write just one book and then work on another.  Single title or should one write a series??  I am writing a series and while I am writing the first book of the series, I already have ideas for the next five books.  Not sure this is the norm of how it works, but it is working for me. I ahave another idea for a series and have two books written in rough draft form.  So I like the idea of writing a series then you will never run out of ideas. I don't believe in writer's block.  That is only an excuse.  Muse?  Don't believe in that either.  All you have to do is sit down and write.  That is it. Is it that simple??  Not at all.  I have a series to write and I am not getting any younger.  If I don't keep writing then I will never finish the books in the series. I finished plotting out my last four chapters.  I also plotted out my next story in the series.  I can not stop thinking about my stories. I am a plotter.  I like to know where I am going, so I don't get off track.  I have a friend that does not plot, so we all write differently and that is okay, as long as you get the story finished. So it is getting warmer out and that is a good thing, though I don't like the outdoors, I will just stay inside and write my stories. I want to say that my thoughts and prays are with everyone who is effected by the earthquake and ocean waves.  Makes writing seem meaningless, but I feel that writing is a good thing.   I think that writing will release the stress and worries and others need a way to escape the everyday life. While you are writing, remember that you are writing for your readers to escape from their lifes.  So don't stop writing.  If anything you need to write more and get your stories out there for people to read, so they can have something to look forward to.  Keep writing even though the world seems to be falling apart. I can't tell you how much I learn from taking a writing class on line. In the class that I am taking, I am using my own story for the lessons.  It makes me see if I am on the right track or not.  I get someone's opion that doesn't know me.  If a friend or co worker reads my work, they always say I am a good writer. I need advice from someone who I don't know.  there are a lot of workshop on lines.  I took Terry Spears writing classes and I highly recommend those classes.  http://www.terryspear.com/ The class I am taking now.  http://fthrw.com/ The classes are not expensive and you will learn a lot.  I got my second lesson and will be working on that this weekend. I am getting up early so I can blog/do my writing assignment/ work on my book.  I know it is not easy but it is the only way I can get anything done.  When I get home from work, I am to tired to think let alone write.  So I choose to get up early. Does your characters have Goals?  Or are they just going about everyday life. When I started writing, my characters were either eating and sleeping....Boring. So know I have to make sure that my characters have goals and are going for something. I get lost sometimes and have to rewrite the scenes.  My on line workshop that I am taking is about goals, motavation, and conflict which ever story needs.  My story needs work in this area. I just got my first lesson in the workshop and will probably take it to work and work on the first lesson. Keep writing and stay focus. I am getting closer to the end of my book.  I am moving forward.  Chapter 15 is done and I have 5 more chapters to write and then the rewrite will begin.  I started my online writing class today and looking forward to that.  You need to check out their workshops, at http://fthrw.com/workshops/   They have workshops monthly and highly informative.  Check them out. This workshop is a month so I need to stay focus on the workshop and still finish my book at the end of the month.  That is my goal and I play to see it through. I have just finished chapter 15.  Getting closer to the end of the book.  As I am writing this new things are coming up, making the story better with more conflict. You never know how the  story will end if you don't finish it.

I am a list maker.  I make lists from other lists.  I went to the store the other day with two lists, just so I wouldn't forget anything.  So yesterday I made my list for my goals for the month of March.  I think I can reach those goals, least I am working toward something so when I do write, I know where I am going.  It gives me something to focus on. I am also taking an on line workshop the month of March.  It is not just a week it is all month and starts Monday so along with my writing I do hope that I will be learning something. It is storming out.  Thunder/lightening.  I unplugged my computer and running on the battery.I just wrote 7 pages and that is a good thing. So keep writing no matter what life throws at you.  The words will come if you let them. Happy Writing!!!!

Rain and storms are coming and my head this throbbing, needless to say, I didn't write today, I cleaned my house instead. It is amazing how junk mail can collect over the days and weeks.  I recently bought a swifter mop and that is the best way to clean floors ever.  Takes only a few minutes and then I am done.  So now I am a bit more organized and I can focus on my writing. Do you do character charts? I do.  I need to keep a list of what they look like so all my characters don't all have blonde hair and that they are a bit different and later in the book their green eyes don't become brown eyes. Names, I have a list also especially for minor characters so I don't change their name half way through the book.  I do make lists and keep character charts on all my characters even if there is a dog in the story.  I don't want to have to go back and change a name or the color of their hair.  Or in the beginning they like something and then at the end of the book they are scared of the samething they liked in the beginning. I didn't blog yesterday, just to tired.  I didn't write, to tired to write.  There are people who don't need a lot of sleep.  I am not one of them.  There are people who can write thousands words a day, don't think I am one of them. I can only do what I do.  We all have lives and our problems that the day brings. So don't feel guilty if you can not keep up the pace of other writets.  I don't.  I do what I can I write what and when I can but I am a bit envious of other writers, I guess that is normal.
