Yesterday, I Had A Meltdown

How is your story coming along?  Getting a lot of writing done.  Are you writing everyday? I want to say that my story is doing great.  I want to say that I am reaching my word count everyday. That would be a lie.  I lie and tell you that the writing life is awesome.  That would be a lie. Yesterday, I had a meltdown.   What is wrong with me? I got up and was ready to write. I started writing.  I didn't go on line or Facebook.  I was writing and then I thought.  "This is so stupid.  So I backspaced everything I wrote.  I started over.  Then I said.  ""What is wrong with me.  No one is going to read this."  So I backspaced everything I just wrote. I continued to write.  Then I screamed.  "I am so stupid."  I backspaced everything I wrote. I am sure that I wrote at least a thousand words all together. Then I just got mad at myself.  "You are stupid.  No one is going to read this."  I turned off the computer.  I went into the li

Length Of Kindle Book On Amazon

How long should your story be? Short Story? 5,000-10,000 Words Novelette? 20,000 Words Novella? 20,000-60,000 Words Novel? 60,000-100,000  Words I Googled for some info. Readers who read on their phone or Kindle, sales are up on shorter stories.  Since they are reading on a tablet of some kind, they can read a quick story on the tablet. Shorter stories sell better as E-Books. So how short should your story be? I then Goggled price on short stories. Under 20,000 words are usually priced as $1.99- 99Cents  and 35% royalty  A Novella  are usually priced at $2,99 or $3.99  75% royalty Novels are priced at $2,99 - $4,99 I have decided to make my word count around 50,000 words.  A Novella and price it at $2.99 The only downside I found was that some readers will leave a bad review because the book is only 50,000 words.  They said to mention that it is a Novella in the book description. I want to write 4 books a year.  For me I would rather write a shorter book,

Organized Writers

Are you organized as a writer? Is your desk clean?  Books on the book case?  I am here to proclaim, I am organized in my own way.  I have books, legal pads and magazines on the floor, but I do know where everything is.  It might look like a mess to others, but to me it is an organized mess. I cannot have a perfect desk and everything in their proper place. In my office, I have to step over things to get in the office. I have chicken feed, water container for the chickens, basket of the eggs in the entrance of my office.  That is fine with me.   It is all right by the door.  I have what I need when I go and check the chickens and I have no problem stepping over things to get in my office.  I also write in my bedroom.  I have my pillows propped up and sit back with my laptop on my legs and I write.  Needless to say that I have books, magazines and legal pads on the floor. I went into my office this morning, and found a couple things I needed and thought "Great, mor

Stick To A Writing Schedule.

Write Everyday. You hear that all the time.  You go to writer's conference's they say "Write Everyday" You read books on writing, they write, "Write everyday." That is great advice, when you are on a schedule. I quit my job to write and blog.  I like blogging.  So I blog.  I have another  Blog So I do write everyday. That does not mean that I am productive.  I write in notebooks, on the computer and on my blogs. This week not so much on my book.  Why?  I just didn't feel like it. I don't have a reason, I went on Facebook to promote my books, I got distracted for about 2 hours scrolling on Facebook.  Time I could of been writing.  So I need to stay off Facebook. Then I have to go and check chickens for eggs. Then my boyfriend wants to watch a movie with me. Then I have to go check for eggs. Then, I just am tired. I am sure we all do this. We know we should be writing, but hey, there is always something that is begging fo

Social Media

I am not a fan of social media.  I know we need social media for promoting our books, but for me it is a time zapper. Yesterday after I finished blogging, I went on Facebook.  An hour went by, before I even did one thing to promote my writing. I was distracted and I lost an hour, scrolling through Facebook. I am not on twitter.  Seem like all they want to do is argue on Twitter.  I don't have time to reply to everyone that replies to my tweet and for me twitter sucks the life out of me. Twitter might be great for you all, but for me, not so much.  Then again, I do not have a smart phone.  I have a flip phone and not on the internet with the phone. I am old school.  I want to write and publish my writings.  That is what I want to do.  If I am on social media all the time, when am I going to write? I started blogging more regularly when I quit my job and honestly I think I am reaching more people through my blog.  I am reaching people in other countries which I think is

Reality Check On Being A Self-Published Writer

Self- Published Books hit one million in 2017 How I Published Over 50 E-Books On Amazon Yesterday, I was going to write a post and had no idea what to write.  I was on Facebook and there are so many groups one can join.  I lost track of time as I scrolled down the posts of one group.  Everyone seemed to be selling books, pictures at there book signings.  Newbies asking questions, people buying ads on Facebook and Good Reads.  Then I came a cross a post.  A woman said, her computer died.  She can't write in long hand, because her hands cramp up.  How is she going to write?  She can't afford a new computer. I published  My Bible--My God  in 2011  It is my testimony how I accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior and my walk with God.  I have this in print and e-book.  In 2011 E-Books were fairly new.  Everyone was learning how to self-publish.  When I started, I didn't even know how to send an E-mail or a file.  Then when someone sent me a file, I downloaded the f

Wake Up Early & Write

I have been up since 4:00AM. Not something I like to do.  I am not a morning person. I quit my job in February to write. 1.  I have a Non-Fiction Book with the Editor. 2.. I have completed the rough draft of my novel and now in rewrite stage. 3.  I have a 90 day Devotional I am working on. 4.  I am working on a memoir. I have a lot of things going through my head everyday.  I am constantly thinking of what I need to do.  The problem is that I have no schedule.  I no longer have a "job"  to go to, so my days are mine.  I have chickens, planted a garden, watched tv, caught up with The housewives of...on Bravo.  I still have no schedule. I have been writing 1,000 words a day.  Then I am like, hey look at me:  I am a writer.  Done for the day, because I wrote 1,000 words.  That is not going to cut it, if I want to make a living at this.  I have no excuse not to write.  I have no excuse at all.  Sure life gets in the way, I need a schedule. I woke up at 3:AM and s

Rough Draft Complete--Now What

The rough draft of The Cross is finished.  Now comes the hard part. For me the rough draft is the funnest part of writing. Now the real work begins. I looked over the pages on the computer and came up with a rough time line.  2-4 days is my time line.  I jotted down, when the weather starts to change.  In the story, the weather plays a part in the story.  It is a ten chapter book.  So for the next few days, I am going to concentrate on the first five chapters. 1.  Make a list of every character, and names.(so later I will not change names in chapter 7) 2.  Make a clear character chart for each character.  (I have a rough one for each character) 3.  Note the day, time of day and weather for each scene 4.  Make sure every scene has Goal-Conflict-Resolution 5.  Make sure I like the scene, If I don't like the scene, neither will the reader.  I am not going to worry about word count.  Though I am going to rewrite at least one scene a day.  3 Scenes per chapter=15

If You Write, You Are A Writer

I am so glad that winter is over, least in the southern states.  Yesterday was rainy and cloudy.  Today the sun is out. I had a truck load of dirt delivered  for the green house.  Someone had to shovel all the dirt into the greenhouse.  Thank the Lord, it was not me.  Then I bought 20 bags of cow manure, for the garden.  I like to think that I am shoveling the dirt, spreading the cow manure and tilling the garden.  It is not me.  I would like to think I am the one planting the seeds.  it is not me.  Why, because all my life I am looked upon as a helpless female. Sad to say that I am not that independent.  All my life I was told I couldn't do anything.  Age of 42 years old, divorced I did not know how to pump gas.  That is pathetic.  I envy  women who can change a tire, put oil in , wherever it goes and put air in the tires.  I am not that person.  I went to buy wood for the deck.  My boyfriend, thought I was going to help him pick up the wood. I asked if I was going to
