10 Things I Do Before Writing A Story

1.  Figure out the word count.  short story?  Full length novel?

2.  Plot Points,  Major events that change the course of the story.

3.  Character Charts.

4.  I write the first and last scene.

5.  Find the tone of the story.  Light and funny or dark and scary?

6.  Have the book cover in my head to match the tone of the story.  I already have someone working on the cover even though it might be 5 months before the book is finished

7.  Set up writing schedule, so I know when the book will be finished.  Helps keep me on track.

8.  I don't talk about my story to anyone.  I write the story first

9.  Plot out the book.  Break it down into chapters and then scene by scene. That way, I know where I am going and won't get stuck

10.  Beleive in your story.  If I don't believe in my story, no one else will

Write No Matter What

I woke up and felt like a truck hit me.  I still turned my computer on and started writing.  That is the only way the story is going to get written.  Do I feel like writing?  Nope.  Do if feel like Blogging?  Nope.  I write cause that is what I do.  So I poured me a soda and let the caffine take its effect.  I have to get ready for work in a bit, I blooged, I wrote a bit, so I am still going in the write direction. I write no matter what.  whether I feel like  it or not. Have a great day. http://sharonleejohnson.com/

I try to write everyday, but it does not always work out that way for me. I guess what I am trying to say, it that don't feel bad if you don't write for one day.  You are still a writer. I know that this is NANO month and you are suppose to write everyday and at the end of the month, have written 50,000 words.  Which is awesome.  The way I am going, I am not going to make it.  I have no excuse but I have headaches everyday and I mean everyday.  Some days are better than others.  A lot of the headaches are sinus headaches.  I am not using this as an excuse.  I know that others have worse problems in their lives. So if you are a...
