The name of this post is that I am no longer going to worry about my word count. The beginning of this year, I was on face book looking to see what others were doing. There are people out there writing a 50,000 word novel or longer once a month. What???? I can't do that
There are people that want to write a A million words this year. That is doable.
So that is what I was focused on, Making my word count everyday. I can write 1,000 words within 30 minutes sometimes. The most I wrote in a day was 5,000 words. So I know that I can produce books.
My problem is that I was focused on word count. I can write 1,000 words on an idea for a new story, or just write 1,000 words on a novel that I am working on, but then I pat myself on the back and was done for the day.
I have a rough draft of 30,000 words. I wrote that in a month or so. I still have to go back and rewrite it. I can write a lot of rough drafts, that does not mean that they are publishable.
So I am not so concern on my word count. I am more concern about getting the book written and published. I might not write one day, but I might be doing other things to move my book further along.
I hate to edit. I love to write, I write in longhand, on the computer. I can write anywhere, that does not make me an Author. I can not hold a copy of my book in my hand, because I am just writing and there is nothing wrong with that.
I am still going to keep an eye on my word count, but I am not going to beat myself up if I don't write every day.
We all have different schedules. We all are unique and different.
Embrace your difference, God gave you the gift to write, so write and don't worry about what others are doing.
It is very freeing .
