Writing A Four Book Series Post #1

This is the first book I wrote on how I write and my schedule, back in 2011, a lot has changed but the one that that hasn't changed and never will change is the that you have to write.  Back in 2011 I wrote a short story every month, sometimes twice a month for an entire year.  Now people are writing a short story a week or a book a week, don't let that get you off track.

They will get burned out sooner or later.  Writing is not a sprint, it is a marathon. Even if you write a hundred words a day, you are writing.
When I started, I barely could write twenty words a day.  Now I can write 1,000 words and think nothing of it.  5,000 words are the most I wrote in one day and that is when the words flowed out of me and had no idea where they were coming from, but that doesn't happen very often.

So I have been blogging, on my other Blog I Am Walking With God, as I read through the Bible and this new book series was in my head.  I saw the characters.  I saw the entire 4 books plotted out.  I saw myself holding all 4 books in paperback, in my hands.

So now I am ready to start writing this series.  I am not going to worry about the word count.  I am focused on writing everyday, no matter what, whether it is 5 words or 5,000 words.

I am old school.  I do things in longhand.  So this is what I have done so far:

1.  I purchased the larges binder that holds the most notebook paper.

2.  I got some bread ties.

3.  I got a couple of packets of note book paper

4.  I divided the pile of note book paper, into piles of 4

5.  I took the the bread ties and looped one through each hole and twisted it.

Now I have 4 notebooks for each book
The reason I did this was because when I buy spiral notebook, I feel bad when I waste a page or tear a page out.  I hate ruining a notebook.

This way, I can rip out a piece of notebook paper and it won't matter because I can replace it, just untie the bread tie if I need to add more paper.

6.  1st Page:  I wrote the Title of each book and the Series Name

7.  Wrote the Log Line under the Title

As I am writing This Series I am following the Writing Book, Save The Cat, If you don't have this book, Go to Amazon and buy it .  Save The Cat, Writes a Novel by Jessica Brody and Save the Cat By Blake Snyder

I don't get any money for talking about these books, but I am following there 15 Beat Sheet.

So if you want to follow me as I write this 4 Book Series check out there website and book .  It is well worth the money.

8.  The 2nd page I listed the 15 Beats of the Novel

9.  The next pages I started the Character Charts of each Character

10.  I Start the Time Line.

These notebooks will be by Bible Series Notebooks.
I will put everything in these notebooks, so as I write, I can refer back to them, as I write the second and third book.

This will work if you are only writing one book.  You need one place for all your notes and ideas for the book

Then the large binder I bought, I place all four notebooks into the binder and I know where they all and will not have to hunt for them.  You can also use spiral notebooks to do this also.  For me, I just wanted to be old school and a bit created.

So while I write Book 1, I can still work on Book 3 if I want to. Just jot down the notes and Ideas

11.  Then I bought a new flash drive and started a file for each book.  I am only using this flash drive for the series.  Then I can write a scene on any book because my files are on the same flashdrive.

Now I am ready to write.

Write No Matter What

I woke up and felt like a truck hit me.  I still turned my computer on and started writing.  That is the only way the story is going to get written.  Do I feel like writing?  Nope.  Do if feel like Blogging?  Nope.  I write cause that is what I do.  So I poured me a soda and let the caffine take its effect.  I have to get ready for work in a bit, I blooged, I wrote a bit, so I am still going in the write direction. I write no matter what.  whether I feel like  it or not. Have a great day. http://sharonleejohnson.com/

Writing Everyday

I am in awe of people who can write everyday.  I have heard that for years.  Write Everyday, even if it is just one word, one sentence or 1,000 words. I believe it.  Writer's write.  It is that simple. There are people on Facebook, posting their word count.  I am in awe of those people. I try to write everyday, but it does not always work out that way for me. I guess what I am trying to say, it that don't feel bad if you don't write for one day.  You are still a writer. I know that this is NANO month and you are suppose to write everyday and at the end of the month, have written 50,000 words.  Which is awesome.  The way I am going, I am not going to make it.  I have no excuse but I have headaches everyday and I mean everyday.  Some days are better than others.  A lot of the headaches are sinus headaches.  I am not using this as an excuse.  I know that others have worse problems in their lives. So if you are a...
